Spot trading

Spot trading is the most direct way to trade an asset: you buy it at the current price and you own it outright, or you sell what you own. There is no borrowing, no expiry date, and no contract sitting on top of the asset. If you buy Bitcoin on the spot market, you hold Bitcoin.

This is different from leveraged or derivative trading, where you control a larger position than your capital would normally allow, or trade a contract whose value is derived from the asset. Those approaches can amplify gains, but they also amplify losses and can force you out of a position at the worst possible moment.
