Buy and hold
Buy and hold is the strategy of buying an asset and keeping it through market ups and downs, betting on long-term appreciation rather than timing.
Buy and hold is exactly what it sounds like: you buy an asset and keep it for the long term, through rallies and crashes, on the belief that it will be worth more years from now. It is the simplest possible strategy, and over long horizons in strongly appreciating assets it has often been hard to beat.
Its strength is that it sidesteps the two biggest mistakes investors make: selling in panic near the bottom and chasing in greed near the top. Its weakness is that it requires sitting through deep drawdowns without flinching, which is far harder in practice than it sounds, especially in a volatile asset.
